| Hi, I'm new here, just joined the forums in fact ^^. Whilst the minecraftforum thread impressed, I'm still slightly hesitant to write an application. See, whilst I enjoy RP on minecraft, and have done so since way back sometime in alpha, I also enjoy building things. Not extravagant houses and castles, mind you, I'm not that kind of builder . No, I prefer redstone, mines and smaller, less obvious buildings. I feel that I should ask about the specifics about the server limitations on building such, before I apply, just so I know if this server is something for me ^^. Also, this is just my opinion and I'm unsure if it applies to even a single other applicant, but NOT having a more detailed information displayed about the class system, something that is a core part of making characters and how the server runs, is something that would scare off new applicants. Saying the info is ingame seems to be doing the bare minimum, as I would not even take the time of my day to apply without knowing these things FIRST (if I wasn't so bored right now XD). | |

| Hmm, I don't know then... I'm not one to build ruins (Who would? XD) And redstone is so awesome . Only good way to make secret doors and traps XD. I could live without minecart (No matter how sweet they are ), but redstone is too awesome XD. | |

| The thing is, this is a tribal era, tribal themed server. So there is a very low level of technology. Redstone machines simply do not fit in. As far as ruins go, there are a lot of them already on the server. Hell, the Dagnar live in one. I think once you see them you will understand where we're going with this. The current world is based in the ruins of an older civilization. Evidence of their works are still evident throughout the jungle (ruins). While 2 of the 3 tribes do have newly constructed buildings, the Dagnar have taken to the ruins.
Think of it this way, iron is the highest technology we have, and only the most skilled can even craft with it. You can't build something that you wouldn't reasonably be able to build without iron tools or higher technology that that. Does that help at all? We have a very distinct theme on the server and we want to preserve it at all costs.

| I think I understand where you're going with this then . But am I interpreting it correctly that there is magic then? I've not seen any of the classes yet, nor do I know what they entail, but is there any way to make redstone powered things that appear to be magical in any way? (It's just a shot in the dark here, IDK how the magic works, but I *do* specialise in hidden/invisible redstone things) For example (because this is so vague that you might need one XD): I know how to make it so something (Maybe a piston door?) activates when you make a rune of redstone on the floor (just placing it, no wiring) | |

| We might be open to things like that in the future, but for now I'm just trying to establish the bare bones of the server. Get everything running smoothly before introducing new stuff, you know? | |

| I also wanted to comment on something you mentioned before that i neglected to respond to. - ktccd wrote:

This is partially intentional. Several of the details concerning your first experience with the server are actually designed intentionally to weed out lazy or impatient players. We are trying to build a mature and intelligent community. If a player is too lazy to read some info to figure out what they're supposed to do, then do they really fit in with the server? I'd like to think no. So by saying "hope on for more info" that's kind of a test to see if people are too lazy to, despite how easy it is to log on and do so. I think there's enough in the OP to attract a player's attention, make them interested in joining up if the theme is something they like. We have pics showing the great builds we have so far so they know it's not an ugly server that's not worth their time. If they can't be bothered to log in a check it out then it's kind of on them. When you first log in there is a lot of info for you. It explains how you are to proceed to picking a class. If they are too lazy to do that, or not smart enough to figure it out, then they are stuck as wanderers unable to interact with anything on the server. Again, it's kind of on them. I've instructed the player to only give minimal assistance in this, as it's actually an extremely easy process. Again, it's all a test to help weed out undesirables. So far no one has been stuck for long.

| But I wasn't saying it was lazy... It's an investment of effort and of creativity to make a new character for RP. Then what if the class system turns out to be something you don't like at all? Then you've spent all that effort to get in (Because it isn't *that* fast to just log in, it took 6 hours to get accepted and whitelisted for me).
I'm just speaking out of the viewpoint of a regular player, browsing the MC forums in search of a good RP server. It's not about being lazy, it's about whether or not you're willing to invest yourself into a character, when there's a large element of the server that is unknown to you... This system of introducing specific info inside the server is something I've only seen work on graylist (or no-whitelist) servers, where players can log in to see immediately. 6 hours is a lot of time to see if the server is anything you'd like...

| Perhaps, maybe some general info on each class. I really don't want to get too specific and clutter up the post. | |

| Why not have it as different posts or threads somewhere here, on the forums, and turn each word on the list into a link to it's corresponding post? | |

| Hmm, that's actually not a bad idea at all, though I'm not sure if you can hide links on the MC forums. I'll have to look at the settings. You can. I think I'll do that | |
